April 2005: Holocaust Museum Rebuilt

The C.A.N.D.L.E.S. (Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors) Holocaust Museum in Terra Haute, IN, was destroyed by an arsonist in November 2003. By the time of the new building’s groundbreaking in October 2004, the museum’s Director, Eva Mozes Kor, had received almost $300,000 in donations for rebuilding purposes. $25,000 was given by local school children. The new 3,700 square-foot museum was completed and reopened in April 2005. The facility includes expanded display space, art from local children that remembers victims of the Holocaust, and memorials.
