November 18, 2003: Anti-Semite Burns Holocaust Museum
The C.A.N.D.L.E.S. (Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors)
Holocaust Museum in Terra Haute, IN, was burned down by an arsonist. According to police, the arsonist spray-painted the words,
“Remember Timmy McVeigh” on an exterior wall of the museum. (Timothy McVeigh was the man who bombed the Murrah Federal Building
in Oklahoma City, OK. In 2001, McVeigh was executed for his crimes in a federal prison located just outside of Terre Haute ).
Eva Mozes Kor, a survivor of the Auschwitz death camp during the Holocaust, spent ten years creating this museum. The museum,
which opened in 1995, was designed to share the stories of children who had survived the Holocaust. The Anti-Defamation League
offered a $2500 reward to anyone who provided information that helped arrest and convict the arsonist.
