Julie Lyn Barber is pursuing a D.A in vocal performance at Ball State University, with a
secondary focus in stage direction. She holds a Masters degree in Opera/Music Theatre from
Southern Illinois University at Carbondale
She regularly music directs and choreographs productions at Taylor University (Upland, IN)
where she is adjunct faculty in the music and theatre departments. She is Director of Music
Ministries at the First Presbyterian Church of Winchester. Stage direction credits include
productions with Marjorie Lawrence Opera Theatre (Carbondale, IL) and the Bloomington Early
Music Festival, as well as productions with American Heritage Theater Project (Portland, OR),
Muncie Civic Theatre (Muncie, IN) and Farmland Dinner Theatre (Farmland, IN).
Many of her original plays have been produced in Oregon, Quebec and Indiana, including two
selected for the juried festival, DivaFest in Indianapolis: Madwomen’s Late Nite Cabaret and
Tamlane.
Onstage in the past year she has played “Bereneice” in Cabaret Poe (Q Artistry, Indianapolis)
“Nurse” in Romeo and Juliet (Farmland, IN), “Titania” in Purcell’s opera, The Fairy Queen
(Amherst Early Music Festival, New London, CT) and the “Gypsy Hag” in Ménagerie Macabre
(IndyFringe). In April she will play “Sophie” in the BSU Opera production of Werther.
